The mission of KXNV is to create and present vibrant, informative programming of local origin and interest with a strong commitment to musical and cultural diversity and inclusion. In addition to providing comprehensive, alternative coverage of local and state news and community affairs, KXNV serves as a community resource for development of broadcasting skills, particularly among youth and communities of color.

On November 30, 2011, the FCC granted the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada a license to construct a full power FM (89.1) community radio station from a transmitter located on Virginia Peak north of Reno.
